What is love?
Again, this is a very difficult question to answer,,,
And it is especially difficult for Japanese.
I as a person who used to live in belgiium for 6years, I really feel that Japanese do not express their love.
For instance, children say"i love you"to their parents or family very frankly, and they say it almost everyday.
However, in Japan, we dont have that culture, and hardly express our love toward parents even if we love them.
Also, for friends too. It is normal to say "I love you" to friends in western culture, while we don't say 愛してる to our friends in japan.
I think that only person that Japanese use 愛してる is to girlfriend or boyfriend.
